HISTORY OF THE R-20 ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE
A significant number of members of the “Z-20 Waiting List Club” wrote us insisting that we build a Retro version of the Z-20. After carefully considering body characteristics, we chose one that met all practical requirements and yet was classical and refined in appearance. Most of all we were concerned with the size of the seat so that it would comfortably fit two riders and have ample leg room for the tall driver. The R-20 comes with stirrups for the rear rider.

There is also a lot of room for storage under the R-20 seat. Besides all this, we also wanted it to be a classic beauty.

We are happy to inform you that the R-20 is now in production. From a mechanical and performance point of view all models are identical. All will be powered by a 2500-watt 60-volt brushless hub motor. Only the body of the R-20 is totally different. Everything else remains the same.

We are aware that the R-20 will greatly please a large number of Buyers that prefer the classic Retro look. We are taking orders and we are able to accommodate immediately those that wish to purchase an R-20.

There is an exciting but limited color selection to choose from. The R-20 only comes in Black, Red, and Silver. These three colors are the classical colors of Ferrari, Mercedes Benz and Lamborghini.

The R-20 design is a creative upgrading of an old retro classic Italian concept no longer being built. We felt that it provided exquisite elegance and functional practicality.

We are quite sure that the R-20 will continue to greatly please a large number of Buyers that prefer the classic Retro look. Having sold but a few of the entire first production of the R-20, we are now looking forward to our Second Generation production.
For the Second Generation production we are focusing more on reliability and muscle rather than in additional sophisticated innovations. We have sensed that our buyers want a beautiful vehicle but above all they want it to be powerful and totally reliable; to be ready to go at all times, not to break down and to keep maintenance down to a minimum. In other words our customers are demanding a “potent work horse” but a beautiful one at that.

The 2009 R-30

 

2009 R-30 versus 2007 R-20

Not wanting to in any way change or alter the classic Retro style of our “R” Models, the 2009 Model R-30 will look in appearance identical to the 2007 Model R-20. However, technically there are significant differences and improvements. Here is a look at what is new and better.

  • The R-30 has a 3000W three-phase, 60V brushless hub motor built on a 10 inch rim and sports 10 inch X 3.5, 6 ply DOT tires. This new motor is faster with 940 RPM.
  • The new motor is capable of reaching speeds of approximately 45 MPH (72 KPH) but with superior torque and climbing ability. It has been kicked up by 500 watts.
  • In order to cut costs as much as possible the 2009 Model R-30 will only be available in two colors: Metallic Red or Metallic Blue.
  • The body and frame of the R-30 is much better in both quality and fit and will be assembled with 100% stainless steel nuts, bolts, washers and screws.
  • The floorboard will have an aluminum plated cover over the area where the feet go and there will be thick floor rugs sold as an accessory.
  • The range may be reduced faintly if the motorcycle is used at full speed at all times, but should still exceed a 30-mile range at normal cruising speeds when used with fully charged batteries.*
  • The totally new controller is a Kelly Controller specifically and specially designed and modified for the R-30 and has a built in overheat preventer which reduces the amperage under extreme conditions. This will eliminate the need for cooling fans thus increasing reliability.
  • The R-30 will no longer have an alarm or a kick stand on and off relay which proved to be unreliable in our first production and became a common problem as a result of shipping. Our top priority is most definitely reliability.  The Kill Switch will remain as a safety feature.
  • The windshield and the trunk as well as wheel locks and an alarm kit will be offered as options and separately priced.
  • We have acquired different and much better front and rear shock absorbers that are significantly stronger and provide a smoother ride for the R-30.
  • The front and rear coated disc brakes are of much better quality and fit; they are also DOT compliant.
  • We have graduated to a superior DC Converter (60V to 12V) with an inline fuse for added safety as well as a much higher peak current.
  • The new heavy duty harness installed is made to European standards, including shielded for ultrasound frequencies; they have also been simplified for functionality and are much better color coded to insure continuity and easier maintenance.
  • The dash now contains a speedometer/odometer with both MPH and KPH with European standards of accuracy which are (The displayed speed-Actual Speed) X 1% +4km. The needle will be a fiber optics needle that glows in the dark.
  • The Hall Effect throttle is much improved with extra rugged thicker wires proving to be more reliable in all our testing. 
  • The R-30 comes with the much awaited SmartSpark battery equalizer (made in the USA) for 60V with LED lights, which maintains the batteries precisely balanced both during charging and discharging thereby increasing significantly the batteries’ life. It is also able to perceive the individual condition of each battery and therefore can sense if any one battery is not functioning properly*
  • The rest of the R-30 will be much the same in appearance, though it now has more clearance under the frame and battery box of the motorcycle due to the new shocks. The R-30 still has the 5 X 12V 35AH sealed lead acid battery pack as well as DOT lights throughout.
  • We are equipping all our 2009 EVTAMERICA models with an improved Soneil International Limited of Canada automatic 60V charger.

* Range will vary depending on the weight of the rider/s, terrain, wind resistance and road conditions. Example: a run on a relatively flat road with few stops and a 180lb rider will get much better range than a hilly road with multiple stops, and a 280lb rider.

SELLING PRICE AFFECTATION BECAUSE OF THE FALLING UNITED STATES DOLLAR, ETC.

We wish to inform that the 10% increase in the selling price of our 2009 Models is principally the direct result of a 30% decrease in the value of the United States Dollar in the last 18 months against the major international currencies. The falling United States Dollar translates into the simple fact that as it falls our dollar buys less in International Markets. Further aggravating our bottom line is the rising cost of fuels that not only affects our shipping costs but has also triggered inflationary waves internationally. The only option left to us was to increase the selling price of our units in order to partially compensate market realities. It has always been our policy to provide electric transportation at the most affordable price possible and we are doing our best to remain faithful to this principle.
